Care for your Vinyl Flooring

One of the shining achievements of vinyl is that it is so easy to clean. Which is why in a lot of homes it's vinyl you'll find on floors that are most likely to get spilled or splattered on. As is the case with most flooring, proper maintenance is the key to a trouble-free vinyl floor.

You should damp mop your floor at least once a week with a mixture of non-detergent floor cleaner and clean tap water. Dust mopping regularly will also greatly assist in the effort to keep your floor looking like new.

Go to the mat to protect your vinyl. While frequent and thorough cleaning is one surefire way to protect your investment, yet another way to protect your vinyl floor is to buy some high quality mats. Mats just inside outside entrances collect dirt and absorb moisture. They're also an outstanding idea for any spot where you tend to pivot a lot—like in front of a sink or your stove. By the way, when you're selecting mats to go directly on top of your vinyl, by sure to pick the ones without a rubber or latex backing.

Protect your vinyl from tables and chairs. Any metal, iron, wood or even plastic that will be resting, sliding or rolling on top of your new vinyl should have an appropriate protective pad such as felt affixed to it. Pay special attention to the chairs you use the most, checking all casters to assure that they are in good shape and that no metal will actually be touching the vinyl. Metal that touches or rests on the vinyl may eventually rust and permanently stain your brand new floor -- and your reputation as the caretaker of the vinyl.

You can move but don't groove. Extreme care should be used whenever moving an appliance or heavy object across your new vinyl floor. You may want to put down some type of protective barrier, such as smooth plywood, to make sure that you don't gouge or put a permanent rip in your vinyl.

Use only proven cleaners and floor care products. To ensure that your vinyl lasts as long as possible, always use your vinyl manufacturer's suggested cleaners and floor care products only. Precisely where will you find all these products? Where else but Carpet Exchange.
